Visit of Fira

Fira is most likely to be the first city you’ll visit when you get on the island. Head down to Santorini’s Old Port, you can either walk the famous steps or take the cable car for 6€. If you want, you can even go by pony! Yes, they actually use ponies as stair taxis all the way down to the port and back up. It’s definitely a unique way to get around, though keep in mind it’s quite a steep climb. Try to avoid going between 9-10 and after 6pm as that’s when most of the big tour groups arrive.

You’ll pass by lovely little churches like Saint Sostis, Saint Dimitris, the Holy Orthodox Church, and especially the beautiful Church of Panagia.

Make sure to stop at the Citadel of Oia, you’ll get a great panoramic view of the city from there.

Then continue your walk down toward the port. It’s a really pretty spot you shouldn’t miss. Just keep in mind that the stairs to come back up are steep and long, so be sure you’re ready for the climb, there’s no cable car like in Fira. But yes, they do have ponies if you prefer a different kind of ride back!

Port of Oia

If you’re up for a little adventure, follow the rocky path along the coast to Armonia Beach. It’s not your typical sandy beach, it’s mostly rocks, but it’s peaceful, quiet, and a great spot to escape the crowds of the city.
